Job Description
Join the dedicated team at the American Red Cross as a Blood Donor Room Nurse. This is a unique opportunity for an RN to make a direct impact on community health in a stable, predictable environment, free from the high-stress, emergency-driven scenarios typical of hospital settings. You will be instrumental in ensuring the safety and comfort of our volunteer blood donors, performing phlebotomy, and monitoring donor reactions, all while contributing to a life-saving cause. Key Responsibilities
- Perform health history interviews and physical assessments on potential blood donors.
- Execute venipuncture for blood collection in a safe and aseptic manner.
- Monitor donors during and after donation for adverse reactions, providing appropriate care and intervention.
- Maintain accurate and complete donor records according to established procedures and regulations.
- Educate donors on the donation process, post-donation care, and importance of blood donation.
- Ensure a comfortable and positive donor experience.
- Adhere strictly to all American Red Cross and regulatory agency policies and procedures.
- Assist with donor room setup and breakdown, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
Required Skills
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of California.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as an RN.
- Proficiency in venipuncture and phlebotomy techniques.
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Current BLS certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in blood banking, dialysis, or a similar phlebotomy-intensive environment.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
- ACLS certification.
