Job Description
Join XPO Logistics as a Hazmat/Tanker Specialist, focusing on chemical logistics within our Concord, California facility. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the safe and compliant handling, storage, and transportation preparation of hazardous materials, specifically focusing on liquid chemicals in tanker operations. Your expertise will ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies, minimizing risks and maximizing operational efficiency. This position requires a meticulous individual with a strong understanding of chemical properties, safety protocols, and logistics processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the loading and unloading of hazardous chemical tankers, ensuring proper documentation and safety procedures are followed.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of tankers and equipment to identify any potential issues or compliance breaches.
- Verify shipping manifests, placards, and labeling for accuracy and regulatory compliance (DOT, EPA, OSHA).
- Monitor inventory levels of chemical products, ensuring appropriate storage conditions and segregation of incompatible materials.
- Respond to and assist in managing hazmat incidents or spills, following established emergency response protocols.
- Maintain detailed records of all hazmat movements, inspections, and training.
- Provide guidance and training to other team members on hazmat regulations and safe handling practices.
- Collaborate with dispatch, drivers, and safety teams to ensure smooth and compliant logistics operations.
Required Skills
- 3+ years of experience in hazmat handling, chemical logistics, or tanker operations.
- Current Hazmat endorsement on CDL (if applicable to role, otherwise strong knowledge of hazmat regulations).
- Thorough understanding of DOT, EPA, OSHA, and other relevant hazmat transportation regulations.
- Proven ability to manage and respond to hazmat incidents safely and effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to operate material handling equipment safely.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Chemistry, or a related field.
- HAZWOPER certification (24-hour or 40-hour).
- Experience with chemical management systems or logistics software.
- Familiarity with California-specific environmental and transportation regulations.
