Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and meticulous Brewing Chemist with a strong focus on Beverage Science to join our dynamic R&D team in Joliet, IL. This role is perfect for a scientist who is passionate about the chemistry of brewing, flavor development, and product quality. You will be instrumental in analyzing raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products, contributing to both new product innovation and ensuring the consistent excellence of our existing portfolio. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive chemical analyses on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished beverage products.
  • Operate and maintain analytical instrumentation, including HPLC, GC, spectrophotometers, and other lab equipment.
  • Develop, validate, and implement new analytical methods to support R&D and quality control initiatives.
  • Monitor fermentation processes and analyze key brewing parameters to ensure optimal product quality and consistency.
  • Collaborate with brewing, production, and quality assurance teams to troubleshoot issues and drive continuous improvement.
  • Participate in sensory evaluation panels and link analytical findings to flavor profiles.
  • Document experimental results, prepare technical reports, and present findings to cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and good laboratory practices (GLP).
  • Contribute to new beverage development projects from concept to commercialization.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Science, Fermentation Science, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an analytical laboratory, preferably within the food or beverage industry.
  • Proficiency in various analytical techniques, including chromatography (HPLC, GC), spectroscopy (UV-Vis, FTIR), and wet chemistry.
  • Solid understanding of brewing science, fermentation kinetics, and yeast physiology.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Direct experience in a commercial brewing or beverage production environment.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 17025, HACCP).
  • Experience with statistical data analysis and interpretation.
  • Participation in sensory evaluation programs or certified tasting panels.
