Job Description

Alberta Health Services is seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as Developmental Support Assistants. In this meaningful role, you will provide direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities, helping them to achieve their personal goals, enhance their daily living skills, and participate more fully in their communities. No prior experience is required as comprehensive paid training will be provided to ensure you have all the tools and knowledge necessary to succeed. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities in various settings (e.g., homes, community centers).
  • Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, medication reminders, and household tasks.
  • Implement individualized support plans and behavioral strategies under the guidance of supervisors.
  • Facilitate community integration and participation in recreational, educational, and social activities.
  • Document client progress, incidents, and observations accurately and timely.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, families, and other professionals.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and supportive environment for clients.
  • Advocate for client rights and choices.

Required Skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to help others.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
  • Basic computer literacy for documentation.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal record check and vulnerable sector check.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a caregiving or support role (volunteer or paid).
  • First Aid and CPR certification (will be provided during training if not already held).
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle (asset, not always required depending on specific role).
