Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Formulations Scientist to join our dynamic R&D team in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The successful candidate will play a critical role in the development of new pharmaceutical products, with a specific focus on tablet and liquid medicine formulations. This position involves hands-on laboratory work, experimental design, data analysis, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to bring innovative therapies from concept to clinic. You will contribute to the optimization of drug delivery systems, ensuring product stability, efficacy, and manufacturability while adhering to strict regulatory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute experiments for the development of tablet and liquid dosage forms, including pre-formulation studies, formulation optimization, and process development.
- Perform comprehensive characterization of raw materials, excipients, and drug products using various analytical techniques (e.g., HPLC, dissolution, particle size analysis, rheology).
- Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and prepare detailed reports, presentations, and technical documents.
- Collaborate with analytical, process development, manufacturing, and regulatory teams to ensure seamless product development and technology transfer.
- Troubleshoot formulation and process-related issues, proposing and implementing effective solutions.
- Stay current with scientific literature, industry trends, and regulatory requirements related to pharmaceutical formulations.
- Ensure all work is conducted in compliance with cGMP, ICH guidelines, and company SOPs.
- Contribute to the selection and qualification of excipients and primary packaging materials.
- Participate in intellectual property generation by contributing to patent applications and scientific publications.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field with 3+ years of relevant experience OR Master's degree with 5+ years of experience OR Bachelor's degree with 7+ years of experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in the formulation development of oral solid dosage forms (tablets) and liquid dosage forms.
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical excipient properties, drug-excipient compatibility, and stability kinetics.
- Proficiency in various analytical techniques for physical and chemical characterization of pharmaceutical products.
- Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies for formulation optimization.
- Knowledge of cGMP regulations and ICH guidelines.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with advanced drug delivery systems (e.g., controlled release, nanoparticles).
- Familiarity with Quality by Design (QbD) principles.
- Experience with statistical software for data analysis (e.g., JMP, Minitab).
- Prior experience working in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology company R&D environment.
