Job Description
Are you a high school student looking for an exciting opportunity to serve your community, develop crucial life-saving skills, and gain valuable work experience? The YMCA of Metropolitan Denver is seeking enthusiastic and responsible High School Lifeguard Trainees to join our aquatics team in Aurora. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals with little to no prior lifeguard experience, as comprehensive First Aid and CPR training will be provided. You will work under the guidance of experienced lifeguards and instructors, learning the essentials of water safety, emergency response, and pool operations. This role offers a unique chance to grow professionally while ensuring the safety of our members and guests.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in all required lifeguard and first aid training sessions.
- Shadow certified lifeguards, observing best practices in pool surveillance and emergency response.
- Assist with maintaining a safe and clean pool environment, including checking equipment and reporting issues.
- Learn and practice CPR, First Aid, and AED protocols.
- Understand and enforce pool rules and regulations to ensure guest safety.
- Develop effective communication skills to interact with patrons and team members.
- Be prepared to respond to minor incidents and assist certified lifeguards in emergencies.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the YMCA's core values.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in high school.
- Ability to swim 300 yards continuously.
- Ability to tread water for 2 minutes using only legs.
- Ability to retrieve a 10-pound brick from a depth of 7-10 feet.
- Strong desire to learn life-saving skills and provide community service.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in aquatic environments (e.g., swim team, swim lessons).
- Enthusiasm for promoting water safety.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.
