Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and reliable Linen Assistant to join our Hospital Logistics team. In this routine and ongoing role, you will be instrumental in the efficient management and distribution of linen throughout our healthcare facilities in Derry/Londonderry. This position requires a keen eye for detail, a commitment to hygiene standards, and the ability to work effectively within a busy hospital environment to ensure that clean linen is always available where and when it is needed most.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, sort, and process incoming soiled linen according to established hygiene protocols.
- Distribute clean linen to various wards, departments, and clinical areas as per schedules and requests.
- Monitor linen stock levels and assist with inventory management to prevent shortages or overstocking.
- Operate laundry equipment, if required, following safety guidelines and training.
- Collect soiled linen from designated areas and prepare it for collection by laundry services.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of linen storage areas.
- Adhere strictly to infection control, health and safety, and manual handling policies.
- Communicate effectively with ward staff and colleagues regarding linen requirements and issues.
- Assist with other general logistics and support duties as needed to ensure smooth hospital operations.
Required Skills
- Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Good physical stamina and ability to perform tasks involving lifting, pushing, and pulling.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills to understand instructions and manage stock.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining hygiene standards.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a laundry, logistics, or healthcare support role.
- Knowledge of infection control procedures in a healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with manual handling techniques and safe working practices.
