Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and hands-on Maintenance Porter to join our team in Weston-super-Mare. In this vital role, you will be responsible for ensuring the hotel premises are well-maintained and operating smoothly. We are looking for someone with basic handyman skills who is proactive, reliable, and capable of performing a variety of minor repairs and general upkeep tasks. All necessary tools will be provided to help you succeed in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance tasks and minor repairs across the hotel premises, including guest rooms, common areas, and back-of-house facilities.
- Address minor plumbing issues (e.g., leaky taps, blocked drains).
- Handle basic electrical tasks (e.g., changing light bulbs, minor fixture repairs).
- Undertake general carpentry work (e.g., repairing furniture, fixing doors).
- Assist with painting, plastering, and general decorating as needed.
- Conduct preventative maintenance checks to identify and resolve potential issues before they escalate.
- Move furniture, equipment, and supplies as required.
- Assist skilled tradespeople with more complex repairs when necessary.
- Ensure all work areas are kept clean, tidy, and safe.
- Respond promptly and efficiently to maintenance requests from staff and guests.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and inventory of tools and supplies.
Required Skills
- Proven basic handyman skills with experience in minor repairs.
- Familiarity with basic plumbing, electrical, and carpentry tasks.
- Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Good problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to maintenance.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift and carry moderate to heavy objects.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a similar maintenance or porter role, preferably within a hotel or hospitality environment.
- Basic knowledge of health and safety regulations.
- Relevant vocational training or certifications.
- A valid UK driving license (desirable, but not essential).
