Job Description

We are seeking an accomplished and visionary Music Department Chair to lead our dynamic music program. This pivotal leadership role requires a passionate educator and administrator with a deep understanding of music pedagogy, curriculum development, and program management. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the music department, from elementary through high school levels, ensuring high-quality instruction, fostering student talent, and advocating for the importance of music education within the district. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and vision for the entire music department, aligning with district goals and educational standards.
  • Oversee curriculum development, implementation, and assessment for all music courses across elementary, middle, and high school levels.
  • Recruit, mentor, supervise, and evaluate music faculty, fostering professional growth and collaboration.
  • Manage departmental budgets, resources, and facilities effectively.
  • Organize and promote departmental performances, concerts, and extracurricular music activities.
  • Collaborate with other department chairs, school administrators, and community organizations to enhance interdisciplinary learning and outreach.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with students, parents, and the wider community.
  • Stay abreast of best practices and innovations in music education, integrating them into the department's programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all district policies and state educational guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Master's degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in music education.
  • Proven experience in a leadership or supervisory role within an educational setting.
  • Strong pedagogical skills and comprehensive knowledge of music theory, history, and performance.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire and lead a team of educators.
  • Proficiency in music technology and software relevant to education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Music Education or a related field.
  • Texas Principal or Mid-Management Administrator Certification.
  • Experience with grant writing and fundraising for music programs.
