Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and vigilant Night Porter to join our compassionate team at Spire York Hospital. This crucial full-time role operates during night hours, providing essential support, security, and a welcoming presence for patients, visitors, and staff. As a Night Porter, you will be the first point of contact during the quiet hours, ensuring the safety and smooth operation of our facility. This position comes with a high night shift differential, acknowledging the unique demands of night work and rewarding your commitment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Secure the hospital premises throughout the night, including monitoring CCTV and performing regular patrols.
  • Respond to alarms and emergencies promptly, liaising with relevant internal teams and external services as required.
  • Provide a welcoming and helpful presence for late-arriving or early-departing patients and visitors.
  • Assist with patient comfort and non-clinical needs, such as guiding to rooms or providing general information.
  • Manage incoming calls and internal communications during night shifts.
  • Undertake minor maintenance tasks or report significant issues to the appropriate department.
  • Maintain accurate records of night activities, incidents, and security checks.
  • Support clinical staff with non-clinical tasks as directed, ensuring a safe and calm environment.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A strong sense of responsibility and reliability.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in critical situations.
  • Basic IT proficiency for logging activities and using security systems.
  • Vigilant and observant with an eye for detail.
  • Physical capability to perform patrols and assist with minor lifting if necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a porter, security, or hotel night reception role, particularly within a healthcare setting.
  • A valid First Aid qualification.
  • CCTV operator license (desirable but not essential, training can be provided).
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures.
