Job Description
We are seeking dedicated and reliable Night Shift Hospital Porters to join our essential team at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking for ongoing work with enhanced rates for night shifts. As a Hospital Porter, you will be a crucial part of the hospital’s operational efficiency, ensuring the safe and timely movement of patients, equipment, samples, and supplies across our busy campus. You will be working primarily during night hours, providing vital support to clinical and non-clinical departments. Key Responsibilities
- Safely and compassionately transport patients via beds, trolleys, or wheelchairs to various departments (wards, theatres, clinics, imaging).
- Move medical equipment, samples, pathology specimens, records, and pharmacy items between hospital areas.
- Handle and transport waste, linen, and postal items according to hospital policies and procedures.
- Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of transportation equipment.
- Respond promptly to requests and urgent calls for portering services.
- Communicate effectively with staff, patients, and visitors with empathy and professionalism.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, infection control policies, and manual handling guidelines.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of patients at all times.
Required Skills
- Ability to work effectively during night shifts (typically 12-hour shifts)
- Excellent physical stamina and ability to push, pull, and lift heavy items
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Reliable, punctual, and highly organised
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team
- A compassionate and patient-focused approach
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a portering role, preferably within a healthcare environment
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to a hospital setting
- Manual handling training certification
