Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Paleontology Lab Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of our state-of-the-art paleontological research laboratory. This pivotal role involves managing a team of lab technicians, ensuring the proper preparation, curation, and analysis of fossil specimens, and supporting various research projects. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of paleontological techniques, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient lab environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise a team of paleontological lab technicians, including training, scheduling, and performance reviews.
  • Oversee the preparation, conservation, and curation of fossil specimens, ensuring adherence to best practices and protocols.
  • Implement and maintain quality control procedures for all lab activities, including data collection and specimen documentation.
  • Operate and maintain specialized laboratory equipment, troubleshooting issues as needed.
  • Assist researchers with experimental design, data analysis, and the development of new methodologies.
  • Manage laboratory inventory, procure supplies, and maintain accurate records of expenditures.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and institutional policies.
  • Contribute to scientific publications and presentations as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient laboratory workspace.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in a paleontological lab setting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Proficiency in fossil preparation techniques (mechanical, chemical, molding/casting).
  • Demonstrated experience with specimen curation and database management.
  • Strong understanding of geological principles and taphonomy.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.
  • Proficiency in relevant software for data analysis and imaging.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Paleontology, Geology, Evolutionary Biology, or a related field.
  • Experience with advanced imaging techniques (e.g., CT scanning, photogrammetry).
  • Familiarity with grant writing and project management.
  • Track record of contributions to scientific publications.
