Job Description

The University of Kentucky is seeking a dedicated and reliable Part-time Maintenance Hand with a focus on weekend school facility needs. This position is crucial for maintaining the operational excellence and aesthetic appeal of our educational facilities, primarily on Saturdays and Sundays. The ideal candidate will assist with general maintenance tasks, minor repairs, and facility upkeep, ensuring a safe, clean, and functional environment for students, staff, and visitors during weekend activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine custodial duties, including cleaning classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and common areas.
  • Conduct minor repairs and maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, fixing leaky faucets, or tightening loose fixtures.
  • Assist with setting up and breaking down equipment for weekend events and activities.
  • Inspect facilities regularly for potential hazards or maintenance issues and report them promptly.
  • Empty trash receptacles and manage waste disposal appropriately.
  • Ensure outdoor areas immediately surrounding facilities are clean and free of debris.
  • Support facility staff with inventory management of cleaning supplies and maintenance tools.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and university policies during work activities.

Required Skills

  • Basic knowledge of general maintenance and custodial procedures.
  • Ability to operate basic hand tools and cleaning equipment safely.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to facility upkeep.
  • Reliability and punctuality, particularly for weekend shifts.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand, walk, bend, and climb stairs for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a maintenance or custodial role, preferably within an educational or public facility.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and procedures in a maintenance context.
  • Valid Kentucky driver's license.
