Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Pediatric Hospital Porter to join our busy team at Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford. This vital role involves the safe and efficient transportation of young patients, medical equipment, samples, and supplies within the pediatric department and across the hospital. You will be a friendly and reassuring presence for children and their families, ensuring their comfort and well-being during transfers. Full training will be provided, and we will cover the cost of your Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport pediatric patients, including those in beds, wheelchairs, or trolleys, between wards, departments, and diagnostic areas.
  • Move medical equipment, laboratory samples, blood products, and supplies efficiently and securely.
  • Provide a reassuring and compassionate presence to children and their families during transportation, understanding their unique needs and anxieties.
  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of all transport equipment.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, health and safety regulations, and infection control procedures.
  • Assist with minor duties such as tidying waiting areas or ensuring supply levels are maintained.
  • Communicate effectively with medical staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Respond to emergency calls and urgent transport requests promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient information.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a particular ability to interact kindly and patiently with children and their families.
  • A compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and reliability.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively within a team.
  • Good physical stamina for frequent walking, pushing, and lifting.
  • Basic understanding of hygiene and safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or customer service environment.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Knowledge of hospital layout and procedures.
  • Proficiency in basic English reading, writing, and speaking.
