Job Description

Are you passionate about working with young children and looking for a pathway into early childhood education? YMCA Quebec is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Preschool Helper (Assistant) to join our vibrant team in Plateau Mont-Royal. This is an incredible opportunity for individuals eager to make a difference in children’s lives and gain valuable experience, with the added benefit of support and resources to achieve Early Childhood Educator (ECE) certifications. You will assist lead educators in creating a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment for preschoolers, supporting daily activities and fostering their development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist lead educators in planning and implementing age-appropriate educational activities.
  • Supervise children during playtime, meal times, and nap times, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and inviting classroom environment.
  • Support children with personal care routines, including toileting and handwashing.
  • Observe and document children's progress and participate in parent communication as needed.
  • Prepare and distribute snacks and meals according to nutritional guidelines and dietary restrictions.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages learning and social development.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities.

Required Skills

  • Genuine love for working with young children (ages 2-5).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Reliability and strong work ethic.
  • Willingness to learn and grow in the field of early childhood education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain quickly).
  • Previous experience (paid or volunteer) in a childcare setting.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is a significant asset.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
