Job Description

As a Remote Prior Authorization Specialist with OptumRx, you will play a crucial role in ensuring patients receive timely access to necessary medications. You will be responsible for reviewing and processing prior authorization requests for prescription drugs, communicating with healthcare providers, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory guidelines. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to contribute to our mission from the comfort of your home.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process prior authorization requests for prescription medications according to established guidelines and protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with prescribers, pharmacies, and patients to gather necessary clinical information and provide status updates.
  • Review patient medical records, insurance policies, and clinical criteria to determine medical necessity.
  • Accurately document all communication and actions within the designated systems.
  • Collaborate with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to resolve complex prior authorization cases.
  • Stay current with changes in medication policies, insurance requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Adhere to HIPAA guidelines and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

Required Skills

  • 2+ years of experience in a prior authorization role within a pharmacy, PBM, or healthcare setting.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, drug names, and therapeutic classes.
  • Proficiency in navigating various computer systems and electronic health records (EHR).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment with minimal supervision.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification.
  • Experience with specific prior authorization software or platforms.
  • Knowledge of various insurance plans and formularies.
