Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Specialty Pharmacy Technician with a focus on Oncology and Biotech to join our dedicated team in New Port Richey, Florida. In this critical role, you will play an essential part in supporting our patients undergoing complex cancer treatments and receiving specialized biologic medications. You will work closely with pharmacists, healthcare providers, and patients to ensure the accurate, timely, and safe dispensing of specialty medications. This position requires a strong understanding of pharmacy operations, excellent communication skills, and a compassionate approach to patient care. Key Responsibilities
- Process and fill specialty medication prescriptions accurately and efficiently, with a strong emphasis on oncology and biotech drugs.
- Maintain accurate patient profiles, including insurance information, medication histories, and clinical data relevant to specialty therapies.
- Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing specialized medications, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Communicate with patients to schedule medication deliveries, provide refill reminders, and address general inquiries regarding their specialty prescriptions.
- Liaise with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patient support programs to facilitate prior authorizations and resolve billing issues.
- Manage inventory of specialty medications, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and performing regular audits.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, and documentation of all controlled substances and temperature-sensitive medications.
- Provide empathetic and professional customer service to all patients and caregivers, understanding the unique needs of those undergoing oncology treatment.
- Adhere to all federal, state, and local pharmacy laws, as well as company policies and procedures.
Required Skills
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) status
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably in a specialty pharmacy, hospital, or oncology setting
- Proficiency in pharmacy software systems and data entry
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, especially related to oncology and complex diseases
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Demonstrated ability to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with biotech and oncology-specific medications
- Knowledge of insurance benefit investigation and prior authorization processes for specialty drugs
- Associate's degree or higher in a related field
- Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish) is a plus
