Job Description
Join UPS as a Hospital Porter, an essential role within our specialized healthcare logistics team. This position is vital for ensuring the efficient and safe movement of patients, medical equipment, laboratory samples, and supplies within a dynamic hospital environment. You will be a crucial link in the supply chain, facilitating the smooth operation of patient care services and supporting various departments. We are looking for a reliable, compassionate, and physically capable individual dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of service and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport patients via wheelchairs, gurneys, or beds to various departments (e.g., imaging, surgery, admissions, discharge).
- Move medical equipment, including oxygen tanks, IV poles, and specialized machinery, between hospital units.
- Deliver and collect laboratory specimens, blood products, and pharmaceutical supplies, adhering to strict handling protocols.
- Manage and transport hospital linen, waste, and other materials in a timely and hygienic manner.
- Maintain cleanliness and functionality of transport equipment, reporting any issues promptly.
- Communicate effectively and courteously with patients, visitors, and hospital staff.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including infection control policies and patient confidentiality (HIPAA).
- Assist with basic inventory and stock management tasks related to medical supplies and equipment within designated areas.
Required Skills
- Strong physical stamina and ability to lift, push, and pull heavy loads (up to 50 lbs) regularly.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and patient-focused approach.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Reliability and punctuality are essential.
- Basic understanding of health and safety procedures.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a porter or in a similar support role within a hospital or healthcare setting.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
