Job Description
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Weekend After-School Assistant with a Part-time Childcare focus to join our Salinas team. In this vital role, you will be instrumental in creating a positive, safe, and engaging environment for children during our weekend programs. You will assist in the supervision of youth, support various activities, and ensure the well-being and safety of all participants. This position is perfect for individuals passionate about youth development, looking for a meaningful part-time opportunity to contribute to our community’s future leaders.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision of children and youth during weekend after-school programs and activities.
- Assist program coordinators and lead staff in implementing age-appropriate educational, recreational, and social activities.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all club members, promptly addressing any concerns or incidents.
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages participation, respect, and learning.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe program area, including setting up and putting away equipment.
- Engage with children individually and in groups, providing mentorship and support.
- Communicate effectively with club members, parents, and staff, maintaining professionalism at all times.

- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children and youth from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to manage groups of children in a dynamic environment.
- Reliability and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in childcare, youth programs, teaching assistant, or a similar role.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Some college coursework in education, child development, social work, or a related field.
