Job Description
We are seeking a reliable and motivated Porter & Driver to join our dynamic team in Penzance, Cornwall. This dual-role position is crucial for maintaining the smooth operation of our store and local delivery services. You will be responsible for the safe and timely transportation of goods, as well as providing essential porterage support within our facilities. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate company vehicles for the delivery and collection of goods to and from designated locations within the Penzance area and wider Cornwall region.
- Ensure all deliveries are made in a timely manner and according to scheduled routes, prioritizing customer satisfaction.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, promptly reporting any mechanical issues or damage.
- Assist with the efficient loading and unloading of vehicles, ensuring all goods are handled carefully to prevent damage and are stored securely.
- Provide essential porterage services within the store and distribution areas, moving stock, equipment, and other items as required.
- Maintain accurate delivery logs, vehicle records, and any necessary paperwork.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, company safety regulations, and manual handling guidelines.
- Represent Tesco professionally and courteously at all times while interacting with colleagues, suppliers, and customers.
- Support the wider store and operations team with general tasks during periods when driving duties are not required.
Required Skills
- Valid UK driving license (Category B minimum) with a demonstrably clean driving record.
- Proven experience as a driver or in a similar logistical support role.
- Physical ability to lift and move heavy objects safely and repeatedly.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills to manage routes and tasks efficiently.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities for effective teamwork and customer interaction.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Good knowledge of local routes and geography within Penzance and the broader Cornwall area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with commercial vehicle operation or vans larger than standard cars.
- Previous experience in a fast-paced retail or logistics environment.
- Basic mechanical knowledge for performing minor vehicle checks and troubleshooting.
- Prior customer service experience is an advantage.
