Job Description

Join our dynamic surgical team at Nova Scotia Health Authority as a Surgical Technologist. This is an exciting opportunity for dedicated and skilled professionals, including international applicants, to contribute to high-quality patient care in a fast-paced operating room environment. You will play a crucial role in ensuring sterile conditions, preparing instruments and equipment, and assisting surgeons and nurses during surgical procedures. We are seeking individuals who are meticulous, team-oriented, and passionate about making a difference in the lives of our patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain sterile fields and instruments for surgical procedures.
  • Assist the surgical team during operations by anticipating needs and passing instruments.
  • Monitor and maintain the sterile integrity of the operating room.
  • Manage and care for surgical specimens.
  • Ensure proper functioning and maintenance of surgical equipment.
  • Participate in surgical counts with the circulating nurse.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Assist with patient positioning and transportation as required.

Required Skills

  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
  • Current certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or eligibility for registration/licensure in Nova Scotia.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and sterile techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift/move patients or equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist in an acute care setting.
  • Experience with various surgical specialties (e.g., general, orthopedics, gynecology).
  • Familiarity with Canadian healthcare standards and practices.
