Job Description

As an Online Content Moderator, you will be on the front lines of protecting our youngest users, specifically 15-year-old teens, by ensuring their web groups and online interactions adhere to our community guidelines and safety policies. You will review user-generated content, identify and take action on violations, and provide crucial feedback to improve our safety tools and policies. This role requires empathy, critical thinking, and a strong commitment to user safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively monitor and moderate user-generated content within online groups frequented by 15-year-old teens, including text, images, and videos.
  • Identify and action content that violates community guidelines, terms of service, and child safety policies, making accurate and consistent moderation decisions.
  • Escalate complex or sensitive cases to senior moderators or specialized teams as necessary.
  • Provide clear and constructive feedback on moderation policies and tools to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Stay up-to-date with evolving online trends, user behaviors, and policy changes affecting young users.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including policy, product, and engineering, to improve content safety measures.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy and productivity in a fast-paced environment.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of online safety principles and internet culture.
  • Excellent critical thinking and decision-making abilities, especially under pressure.
  • High degree of empathy and sensitivity towards diverse user experiences and difficult content.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to identify nuanced policy violations.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in using content moderation tools and platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in online content moderation, trust and safety, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with Google's products and community guidelines.
  • Background in psychology, sociology, child development, or a related field.
  • Experience working with data analysis and reporting tools.
  • Bilingual proficiency is a plus, though not required.
