Job Description
Guitar Center is seeking a highly skilled and passionate Guitar Technician to join our team in Little Rock, AR. This role is crucial for maintaining the quality and playability of our customers’ and store’s musical instruments. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with guitar repair, maintenance, and setup, across various types of guitars including acoustic, electric, and bass. You will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, from basic setups to complex electronic and structural repairs, ensuring every instrument meets our high standards of quality and customer satisfaction. This is an on-site position requiring a strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and excellent customer service skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive guitar setups (action, intonation, neck relief) for electric, acoustic, and bass guitars.
- Diagnose and repair electronic issues including pickups, wiring, pots, and switches.
- Execute structural repairs such as headstock breaks, bridge re-glues, fret work (leveling, crowning, re-fretting), and nut/saddle replacement.
- Conduct routine maintenance, cleaning, and string changes for various instruments.
- Evaluate instruments for repair needs and provide accurate estimates to customers.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the repair shop.
- Order and manage parts inventory necessary for repairs.
- Provide expert advice and recommendations to customers regarding instrument care and upgrades.
- Collaborate with sales staff to ensure a seamless customer experience.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a guitar technician with a strong portfolio of repair work.
- In-depth knowledge of guitar electronics, wiring, and soldering techniques.
- Proficiency in performing fret work, including leveling, crowning, and re-fretting.
- Strong understanding of guitar construction, wood types, and their impact on tone and playability.
- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and manual dexterity.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple repair projects simultaneously.
- Customer service orientation with clear communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Luthier or musical instrument repair certification.
- Experience with amplifier repair or other musical instrument repairs (e.g., drums, keyboards).
- Familiarity with various guitar brands and vintage instrument characteristics.
- Passion for music and playing guitar.
- Experience working in a retail music store environment.
