Job Description
The San Antonio Public Library is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals, aged 18, to join our team as a Teens Library Technician. This entry-level position is ideal for those passionate about books, technology, and serving the youth community. As a Library Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting library operations, assisting teen patrons, and maintaining an organized and welcoming environment in our public library branches. This is a stable, full-time opportunity to start a rewarding career in public service.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist teen patrons with locating materials, using computers, and accessing library resources.
- Provide excellent customer service, answering questions and guiding visitors.
- Organize and shelve library materials accurately and efficiently.
- Help prepare for and facilitate teen-focused programs and events.
- Process new materials, check in/out items, and manage patron accounts.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of library shelves and public areas.
- Perform basic administrative tasks as assigned.
- Support the professional staff in daily library operations.
- Learn and utilize library software and technology systems.
Required Skills
- Must be 18 years old at the time of application.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, especially teens.
- Basic computer proficiency and willingness to learn new software.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 25 lbs, pushing loaded book carts, and prolonged standing/walking.
- A genuine interest in books, learning, and public service.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer experience in a library, school, or community setting.
- Familiarity with various genres of teen literature and media.
- Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- Experience using library cataloging systems (training provided).
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
