Job Description
Are you looking for a new career path with excellent benefits and stability, but don’t have prior experience? Metro Transit is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Trainee Bus Drivers. We believe in investing in our employees, which is why we will sponsor and pay for your Passenger Carrying Vehicle (PCV) licence training. This is a unique opportunity to learn a valuable skill, become a professional driver, and serve your community. No prior bus driving experience is required – just a commitment to safety, customer service, and a desire to learn. Upon successful completion of training and obtaining your PCV licence, you will transition into a full-time Bus Driver position.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in comprehensive paid training programs to obtain your PCV licence.
- Learn and adhere to all traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations.
- Develop skills in operating various types of buses safely and efficiently.
- Practice excellent customer service, assisting passengers with inquiries and providing a pleasant travel experience.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles.
- Maintain a clean and orderly bus environment.
- Follow schedules and routes diligently, ensuring on-time performance.
- Handle passenger fares and manage minor incidents professionally.
Required Skills
- Valid driver's license (non-commercial, Class D or equivalent) for at least 3 years with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Strong commitment to safety and customer service.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a customer-facing role.
- Familiarity with the St. Paul/Minneapolis metropolitan area.
- A passion for serving the community through public transportation.
