Job Description
Join SRP’s dedicated team as a Water Quality Chemist, focusing on ensuring the purity and safety of our water supply for the communities we serve. In this critical role, you will perform advanced chemical and physical analyses on water samples from various sources, including reservoirs, treatment plants, and distribution systems. Your expertise will directly contribute to public health protection and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex chemical and physical analyses on raw, treated, and distributed water samples.
- Operate, maintain, and calibrate sophisticated laboratory instrumentation, including GC-MS, ICP-MS, and spectrophotometers.
- Interpret analytical results, identify trends, and prepare comprehensive reports for regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure strict adherence to EPA, ADEQ, and other relevant water quality regulations and standards.
- Participate in the development and validation of new analytical methods and procedures.
- Investigate water quality issues, contributing to root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records and manage laboratory information systems (LIMS).
- Provide technical support and expertise to operations and engineering teams.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a closely related scientific field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a water quality laboratory, preferably within a public utility setting.
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting analytical instrumentation (e.g., GC-MS, ICP-MS, AA, UV-Vis).
- Strong understanding of water chemistry principles, analytical techniques, and regulatory compliance (EPA, ADEQ).
- Excellent data analysis, interpretation, and technical report writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
- Valid Arizona Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Chemistry or Environmental Engineering.
- Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems).
- Knowledge of microbiology testing methods relevant to water quality.
- Certification as a Water Treatment Plant Operator or Distribution System Operator.
- Experience in quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) programs for laboratory operations.
