Job Description

Sony Music Publishing is seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Music Rights & Licensing Clerk to join our legal and business affairs team in Bloomington, Indiana. This role is ideal for an individual with a strong administrative background, an interest in intellectual property law, and a foundational understanding of the music industry. The successful candidate will play a crucial supporting role in the accurate management and processing of music rights data, assisting with licensing requests, and ensuring compliance with copyright regulations. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the research, verification, and entry of copyright ownership data into internal databases.
  • Process incoming licensing requests, preparing initial drafts of simple licenses and agreements under supervision.
  • Communicate with internal departments and external partners regarding rights inquiries and licensing statuses.
  • Organize and maintain digital and physical files related to music copyrights and licensing agreements.
  • Support the legal team in preparing documentation for rights disputes or compliance audits.
  • Monitor industry publications and legal updates relevant to music rights and intellectual property.
  • Perform general administrative duties as required to support the legal and licensing departments.

Required Skills

  • Proven administrative or clerical experience, preferably in a legal or music-related environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
