Job Description
We are seeking an innovative and passionate Cosmetic Chemist to join our dynamic Skincare & Beauty R&D team in San Antonio, Texas. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in the conception, development, and optimization of cutting-edge skincare and beauty formulations for our portfolio of trendy and high-performance brands. You will leverage your expertise in cosmetic science to bring novel concepts from ideation through to commercialization, ensuring product efficacy, safety, and compliance with global regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and develop new skincare and beauty products from concept to launch, focusing on efficacy, stability, and consumer appeal.
- Conduct raw material evaluation, selection, and qualification for new and existing formulations.
- Perform extensive stability testing, challenge testing, and compatibility testing on formulations.
- Troubleshoot formulation issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, packaging, regulatory, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless product development.
- Prepare and maintain detailed technical documentation, including batch records, specifications, and formulation reports.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, new raw materials, and technological advancements in cosmetic science.
- Ensure all formulations comply with global regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, EU Cosmetics Regulation, Health Canada).
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field.
- Proven experience in cosmetic formulation and product development, specifically within skincare.
- Strong understanding of cosmetic raw materials, their functions, and interactions.
- Proficiency in laboratory techniques, instrumentation, and GLP (Good Laboratory Practices).
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements for cosmetic products (e.g., FDA, EU, Canada).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Cosmetic Science or a related field.
- Experience with scale-up and technology transfer from lab to pilot to manufacturing.
- Knowledge of clean beauty, sustainable formulation practices, or natural ingredients.
- Experience with various emulsion types and anhydrous formulations.
