Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate individual to join our team as an Orthopedic Cast Room Technician (Trainee). This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone passionate about healthcare, eager to learn, and looking for hands-on clinical experience. Under the direct supervision of experienced Orthopedic Technicians and medical staff, the Trainee will learn to assist in the application, removal, and maintenance of various orthopedic casts, splints, and traction devices. This role requires a commitment to patient care, a strong work ethic, and a desire to develop specialized technical skills within an orthopedic setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist certified Orthopedic Technicians and physicians in the application and removal of casts, splints, and other orthopedic devices.
- Prepare cast room and equipment for procedures, ensuring a sterile and organized environment.
- Learn and practice proper aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
- Educate patients and their families on cast care and general post-application instructions.
- Maintain inventory of casting supplies and equipment, notifying senior staff of shortages.
- Ensure patient comfort and safety throughout all procedures.
- Document patient interactions and procedures accurately under supervision.
- Participate in ongoing training and educational opportunities.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work effectively in a team.
- Demonstrated empathy and compassion for patients.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift, and assist in patient repositioning.
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting (e.g., volunteer, healthcare assistant, medical office assistant).
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
- Completion of a medical assistant program or similar post-secondary education.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
