Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accompanist with a strong focus on dance and theater to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional musicality, sight-reading abilities, and a collaborative spirit, providing live accompaniment for various rehearsals, classes, auditions, and potentially performances within our dance and theater programs. This role offers an hourly bonus structure based on specific project engagements and performance commitments, recognizing your valuable contributions to our productions and educational offerings.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert piano accompaniment for dance classes (ballet, modern, jazz, tap, etc.) and theater rehearsals (musicals, plays, vocal warm-ups).
- Accurately sight-read complex musical scores and adapt to last-minute changes or improvisations as required.
- Collaborate effectively with choreographers, directors, vocal coaches, and performers to achieve artistic goals.
- Maintain a professional and punctual presence at all scheduled sessions.
- Prepare and practice music in advance to ensure seamless execution.
- Be available for auditions, workshops, and performance-related events as needed.
- Adhere to the artistic vision and tempo requirements set by the directing/choreography team.
Required Skills
- Advanced proficiency in piano performance.
- Exceptional sight-reading skills across various musical styles and complexities.
- Extensive experience accompanying dance classes and/or theater rehearsals.
- Strong understanding of musical phrasing, dynamics, and tempo.
- Ability to adapt quickly to different genres (classical, jazz, contemporary, musical theater).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliability and strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music Performance, Collaborative Piano, or a related field.
- Proven experience working in professional theater or dance companies.
- Familiarity with various dance techniques and their associated musical needs.
- Ability to improvise and arrange music on the spot.
- Experience with other instruments (e.g., keyboard synthesizers, percussion) is a plus.
