Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Online Community Moderator to join our remote team, focusing specifically on our 16-year-old teen demographic. This is a 100% remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere within the specified region. As a key member of our moderation team, you will be responsible for upholding our community guidelines, fostering positive interactions, and ensuring a safe online space for our teen users. You will engage directly with community members, address their concerns, and proactively identify and mitigate potential issues. This role requires excellent judgment, strong communication skills, and a genuine passion for creating supportive online environments for young people.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor online discussions and user-generated content across various platform channels, specifically targeting interactions involving 16-year-old teens.
- Enforce community guidelines and terms of service consistently and fairly.
- Identify and address inappropriate behavior, bullying, harassment, and other harmful content swiftly and effectively.
- Engage with community members in a positive, professional, and supportive manner.
- Provide guidance and resources to users on safe online practices.
- Investigate reported issues and apply appropriate moderation actions, including warnings, suspensions, or bans.
- Collaborate with other moderators and internal teams to escalate complex issues or identify emerging trends.
- Contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of moderation policies and best practices.
- Maintain detailed records of moderation actions and community interactions.
Required Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (US English).
- Strong understanding of online community dynamics and teen culture.
- Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making under pressure.
- High level of empathy and a patient, understanding approach to user interactions.
- Familiarity with various online moderation tools and platforms.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Reliable internet connection and a secure, private workspace.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in online community moderation, especially with youth or teen demographics.
- Experience with user-generated content platforms or gaming communities.
- Background in counseling, youth work, or similar fields.
- Knowledge of online safety principles and child protection guidelines.
- Ability to identify and de-escalate conflicts effectively.
