Job Description
Join XPO Logistics as a Hazmat/Tanker Specialist focusing on chemical logistics. This critical role involves the safe and efficient transportation of hazardous materials via tanker trucks. You will ensure strict compliance with all safety regulations, perform detailed inspections, and maintain essential documentation for each shipment. This is an on-site, full-time position crucial for our chemical logistics operations in Bakersfield, CA.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate Class A commercial motor vehicles equipped with tanker trailers for the transport of hazardous chemical materials.
- Perform comprehensive pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment.
- Ensure all cargo is properly secured and handled according to Hazmat regulations.
- Maintain accurate logs, manifests, and other required documentation for each shipment.
- Adhere strictly to all DOT, OSHA, and company safety policies and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and other team members regarding load status and any potential issues.
- Participate in ongoing safety training and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform minor routine maintenance and keep equipment clean and in good working order.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements.
- Minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience operating tanker trucks with hazardous materials.
- Demonstrated clean driving record and strong commitment to safety.
- Thorough knowledge of DOT (Department of Transportation) and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) regulations pertaining to hazardous materials transport.
- Ability to perform physical tasks associated with the job, including loading/unloading assistance and equipment maintenance.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced certifications in hazardous materials handling or emergency response.
- Experience with specific types of chemical products or industrial gases.
- Proficiency with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and other logistics software.
- Strong mechanical aptitude for minor roadside adjustments or repairs.
