Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Online Moderator to join our Trust & Safety team, specifically focusing on our community of 13-year-old teens. In this critical role, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe and positive online environment by monitoring user-generated content and interactions, enforcing community guidelines, and responding to user reports. You will play a vital part in upholding the standards of our platform and protecting our younger users from inappropriate or harmful content. This position requires a keen eye for detail, strong communication skills, and a deep commitment to online safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively monitor user-generated content, interactions, and activities across various platform features to ensure compliance with community guidelines and terms of service.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to user-reported content, identifying and escalating critical issues to senior team members or relevant departments.
- Enforce moderation policies consistently and fairly, applying appropriate actions such as warnings, content removal, or account suspensions.
- Provide empathetic and clear communication to users regarding moderation decisions, maintaining a positive and helpful tone.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including product development and legal, to improve safety features and update moderation policies.
- Stay informed about current online safety trends, risks, and best practices, particularly concerning child online safety.
- Participate in regular training sessions to enhance moderation skills and knowledge of platform policies.
Required Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strong empathy and ability to understand different perspectives, especially those of young users.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to identify subtle nuances in online interactions.
- Proven ability to make sound judgments quickly and consistently under pressure.
- Basic technical proficiency with online platforms and moderation tools.
- Understanding of online community dynamics and user behavior.
- Ability to maintain composure and professionalism when dealing with sensitive or challenging content.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in online content moderation, customer support, or community management.
- Familiarity with child online protection laws and best practices (e.g., COPPA).
- Experience with large-scale online communities or gaming platforms.
- Proficiency in additional languages (e.g., Spanish, French, German, Portuguese).
- Background in psychology, sociology, or related fields.
