Job Description
Join UPS as an Emergency Response Driver specializing in FEMA support, playing a vital role in national disaster relief efforts. This position is crucial for the timely and safe transport of essential goods, equipment, and personnel to areas affected by emergencies or natural disasters. You will be part of a dedicated team, responding swiftly to activation requests and operating specialized vehicles under potentially challenging conditions. Your commitment will directly contribute to supporting communities in need and aiding federal response initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate various types of vehicles, including trucks and vans, to transport critical supplies and equipment to designated FEMA staging areas and disaster zones.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, company safety policies, and federal regulations, particularly those related to emergency response operations.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on vehicles, ensuring all equipment is in safe operating condition and reporting any maintenance issues promptly.
- Maintain accurate logs of deliveries, mileage, fuel consumption, and hours of service in accordance with DOT and company guidelines.
- Load and unload cargo safely, utilizing appropriate equipment and following established procedures to prevent damage or injury.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, team members, and FEMA representatives regarding delivery schedules, routes, and any operational challenges.
- Remain flexible and adaptable to changing operational plans, routes, and schedules in response to dynamic emergency situations.
- Ensure all necessary documentation for cargo and operations is complete and accurate.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record
- Minimum of 2 years of professional driving experience, preferably in a logistics or emergency response capacity
- Ability to operate vehicles safely and efficiently in various weather conditions and challenging environments
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations and safety protocols
- Physical ability to lift, push, and pull up to 70 lbs independently
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) endorsement on CDL
- Experience with specialized emergency response vehicles or equipment
- Background in military logistics or disaster relief operations
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Familiarity with GPS devices and routing software
