Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Fleet Transition Driver with a focus on new car delivery to join our team in Rockville, MD. In this role, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently transporting new vehicles from various points of origin, such as manufacturing plants, ports, or distribution centers, to their final destinations, including dealerships or customer sites. This position requires meticulous attention to detail during vehicle inspections, adherence to strict delivery schedules, and a commitment to maintaining the pristine condition of new cars throughout transit. You will be an integral part of ensuring our clients receive their new vehicles on time and in perfect condition.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate various types of vehicles for new car delivery, ranging from sedans to SUVs and light trucks.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and report any damages or mechanical issues immediately.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, company policies, and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
- Maintain accurate logs of vehicle movements, mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery details.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, clients, and team members regarding delivery status, delays, or issues.
- Ensure all necessary paperwork, including manifests and delivery receipts, is accurately completed and submitted.
- Protect new vehicles from damage during loading, transit, and unloading.
- Plan efficient routes and manage time effectively to meet delivery deadlines.
- Represent Ryder System, Inc. professionally at all times.
Required Skills
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Proven ability to operate various vehicle types safely and responsibly.
- Strong attention to detail for vehicle inspection and documentation.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation and route optimization applications.
- Physical capability to perform duties, including entering and exiting vehicles multiple times a day and potentially light lifting.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience in vehicle transport, logistics, or delivery driving.
- Knowledge of local and regional roadways in Maryland and surrounding areas.
- Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs).
