Job Description
Are you a high school student looking for your first job or a way to gain valuable work experience in a fun, fast-paced environment? Smith’s Food and Drug is seeking enthusiastic and reliable High School Bakery Assistants for our West Valley City location. This part-time role offers flexible morning or afternoon shifts, perfect for balancing with your school schedule. You’ll play a vital role in our bakery department, assisting with the preparation, display, and sale of a wide variety of fresh baked goods. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about food preparation, customer service, and teamwork in a supportive setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist bakers with basic food preparation tasks, including measuring ingredients and basic mixing.
- Stock and arrange bakery products, ensuring shelves are well-organized and appealing.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in the bakery department, including cleaning equipment and work areas.
- Provide friendly and efficient customer service, assisting customers with product selection and inquiries.
- Operate basic bakery equipment safely under supervision.
- Monitor product freshness and rotation, ensuring only high-quality items are displayed.
- Assist with packaging and labeling baked goods.
- Follow all company policies and procedures, including food safety guidelines.
Required Skills
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team.
- Strong attention to detail and cleanliness.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds.
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a customer service or food service environment (e.g., school cafeteria, volunteer work) is a plus but not required.
- Basic understanding of food safety principles.
