Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Marine Chief Engineer to oversee the engineering operations aboard our state-of-the-art vessels. The Chief Engineer will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation and maintenance of all machinery and systems on board, ensuring compliance with international regulations and company standards. This is a critical leadership role requiring strong technical expertise, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to maritime safety and environmental protection. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and lead the engine department crew, including supervision, training, and performance evaluations.
- Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all machinery, including propulsion, power generation, and auxiliary systems.
- Plan, organize, and execute maintenance and repair schedules for all mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Oversee fuel and lubricant management, ensuring optimal consumption and compliance with environmental regulations.
- Manage spare parts inventory and requisitions, ensuring critical components are available.
- Implement and enforce safety procedures and environmental protection policies.
- Conduct regular inspections and performance monitoring of all engineering systems.
- Liaise with the Captain and shore-based management regarding vessel operations, technical issues, and maintenance needs.
- Prepare detailed reports on machinery performance, fuel consumption, maintenance activities, and incidents.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant international maritime conventions (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW) and flag state regulations.
Required Skills
- Chief Engineer Officer's Certificate of Competency (Class 1 / unlimited) issued or recognised by a major maritime authority.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience sailing as Chief Engineer on large commercial vessels (e.g., container ships, tankers).
- Proven leadership and management skills, with experience managing diverse teams.
- Strong knowledge of marine propulsion systems, diesel engines, auxiliary machinery, and electrical systems.
- Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
- In-depth understanding of international maritime regulations and safety standards.
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken) to a high standard.
- STCW certification up-to-date.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with planned maintenance systems (PMS) software.
- Familiarity with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
- Experience with dual-fuel or alternative fuel propulsion systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering or a related field.
