Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and empathetic Medical Receptionist to join our busy GP surgery in Camden Town. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to start or further their career in healthcare administration, with a strong emphasis on ongoing training and professional development. You will be the first point of contact for our patients, playing a crucial role in ensuring a smooth and positive experience. The ideal candidate will be organised, have excellent communication skills, and a genuine desire to help people. Full training will be provided to ensure you are confident and competent in all aspects of the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner, both in person and over the phone.
  • Manage patient appointments, including booking, cancelling, and rearranging using our practice management system.
  • Handle patient queries and direct them to the appropriate clinician or department.
  • Process patient registrations, updates to personal details, and other administrative tasks.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing post, emails, and faxes efficiently.
  • Support clinicians and other practice staff with various administrative duties as required.
  • Ensure the reception area is tidy, welcoming, and well-organised.
  • Learn and adhere to all practice policies and procedures, including health and safety guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organisational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and demanding environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a customer service or administrative role.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology or healthcare settings (desirable but not essential).
  • Experience using patient management systems (e.g., EMIS Web, SystmOne).
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above.
