Job Description

Join Northwestern Medicine as a Medical Transcriptionist, where you will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate and confidential patient records. This position offers flexible Work From Home (WFH) options and requires strict adherence to HIPAA guidelines. You will be responsible for transcribing dictated reports from physicians and other healthcare professionals, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and completeness for clinical documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately transcribe dictated medical reports, including patient histories, physicals, office notes, operative reports, consultations, and discharge summaries.
  • Ensure all transcribed documents adhere to HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality standards.
  • Review and edit transcribed reports for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and clarity, making necessary corrections.
  • Verify patient information and report specifics against source documentation.
  • Utilize medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes knowledge to ensure accuracy.
  • Manage workload efficiently to meet turnaround time requirements.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals as needed to clarify dictated information.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Medical Transcriptionist.
  • Excellent understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.
  • Proficiency in medical transcription software and word processing tools.
  • Exceptional listening skills and high typing speed and accuracy (minimum 60 WPM).
  • Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations and commitment to patient confidentiality.
  • Detail-oriented with strong proofreading and editing abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or certification from an accredited Medical Transcription program.
  • Familiarity with various electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Experience with specialized medical reporting (e.g., pathology, radiology).
