Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and physically fit Municipal Parks Maintenance Worker to join our Public Works team. This is an essential outdoor role, crucial for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and aesthetic appeal of Souris’s beautiful parks, green spaces, trails, and public facilities. The successful candidate will enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions, performing a variety of tasks that directly impact the community’s quality of life. This position offers stable full-time employment with weekly pay.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, weeding, raking, and leaf blowing.
- Operate and maintain various hand and power tools, such as mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, and small utility vehicles.
- Remove litter, debris, and waste from parks, playgrounds, trails, and public areas.
- Conduct minor repairs and maintenance on park amenities, benches, picnic tables, and signage.
- Assist with planting flowers, shrubs, and trees, and maintaining garden beds.
- Perform snow removal and ice control duties during winter months, including shoveling and salting walkways.
- Ensure all equipment is operated safely and maintained in good working condition.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations.
- Interact respectfully with the public, answering basic questions and providing assistance as needed.
Required Skills
- Physical stamina and ability to perform strenuous outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to safely operate common grounds maintenance equipment and hand tools.
- Basic knowledge of landscaping practices and plant care.
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to workplace safety.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar outdoor maintenance or labor role.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent) with a clean driving record.
- Previous experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or municipal maintenance.
- Experience operating heavier equipment (e.g., small tractors, forklifts).
- Knowledge of basic horticultural principles.
