Job Description
Are you passionate about the ancient world and eager to embark on a career in paleontology? The Perot Museum of Nature and Science is offering a unique Paleontology Career Starter position designed for highly motivated individuals with little to no prior professional experience. This full-time role provides comprehensive, hands-on mentorship from leading paleontologists, offering an unparalleled opportunity to learn the fundamentals of fossil discovery, preparation, research, and curation. You will be an integral part of our research team, contributing to exciting projects and gaining practical experience in both field and lab settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior paleontologists with fossil excavation, documentation, and recovery in field sites (potentially requiring travel).
- Learn and perform basic fossil preparation techniques, including cleaning, repair, and stabilization in a laboratory setting.
- Contribute to the cataloging and curation of fossil collections, ensuring accurate record-keeping and storage.
- Support research activities by assisting with data collection, analysis, and literature reviews.
- Participate in educational outreach programs, sharing paleontology with museum visitors and the public.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure a safe and organized work environment.
- Collaborate effectively with team members on various ongoing projects.
Required Skills
- Strong passion for paleontology, geology, and natural sciences.
- Excellent attention to detail and patience for meticulous tasks.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Physical stamina and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and challenging terrains.

- Bachelor's degree (or currently pursuing) in Paleontology, Geology, Biology, Anthropology, or a related scientific field.
