Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Pharmacy Billing Associate with a strong focus on insurance and finance to join our team in Arlington Heights, IL. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of pharmacy billing, ensuring accurate and timely submission of claims to various insurance providers, and resolving any billing discrepancies. The ideal candidate will possess an in-depth understanding of pharmacy benefit management, third-party payer requirements, and financial reconciliation processes. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process pharmacy claims accurately and efficiently to various private and government insurance payers.
  • Investigate and resolve denied or rejected claims by identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Communicate effectively with insurance companies, prescribers, and patients to obtain necessary information for claim resolution.
  • Perform daily reconciliation of billing statements and payment remittances to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of billing regulations, payer policies, and industry changes.
  • Assist with patient inquiries regarding billing, co-pays, and insurance coverage.
  • Collaborate with pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to ensure proper documentation for billing purposes.
  • Generate and analyze billing reports to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Handle sensitive financial and patient information with the utmost discretion and confidentiality.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in pharmacy billing or medical billing.
  • Proficiency in pharmacy billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Strong understanding of insurance claim submission processes (e.g., NCPDP D.0, EDI).
  • Familiarity with common insurance terminology, CPT codes, and ICD-10 codes.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve complex billing issues.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Healthcare Administration, Finance).
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification.
  • Experience with pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) and managed care organizations.
  • Prior experience at a large retail pharmacy chain.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
