Job Description
Are you a compassionate individual with a clean driving record looking to make a positive impact? Home Instead in Virginia Beach is seeking dedicated Private Motorists with a Non-Medical Senior Care focus. In this vital role, you will provide safe and reliable transportation for our senior clients to appointments, errands, social engagements, and more. Beyond driving, you will offer essential non-medical support, including light companionship, assistance with grocery shopping, and help with other daily tasks, enabling our clients to maintain their independence and quality of life. This is more than just a driving job; it’s an opportunity to build meaningful relationships and provide invaluable support to seniors in your local community.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide safe, reliable, and timely transportation for senior clients to medical appointments, social outings, shopping trips, and other engagements.
- Assist clients with getting in and out of the vehicle safely.
- Offer light companionship and engage clients in conversation during trips.
- Help clients with carrying groceries or other items.
- Ensure the client's comfort and well-being throughout transportation and during assistance with errands.
- Maintain a clean and well-maintained personal vehicle suitable for client transport.
- Adhere to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Communicate effectively with clients, their families, and Home Instead staff regarding schedules and client needs.
- Document transportation and care activities accurately.
Required Skills
- Valid state driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Proof of auto insurance.
- Reliable personal vehicle suitable for transporting clients.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a compassionate demeanor.
- Ability to assist clients with mobility as needed (e.g., getting in/out of vehicle).
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in senior care or a related field (e.g., personal assistant, volunteer work).
- Familiarity with Virginia Beach and surrounding areas.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Flexible availability, including some evenings or weekends.
