Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented State Geological Survey Assistant to join our dynamic team in San Francisco. This pivotal role supports the geological survey initiatives with a particular focus on administrative tasks related to government benefits programs for employees and public inquiries. The assistant will play a crucial role in data management, report generation, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations concerning geological projects and related benefits. You will work closely with senior geologists and administrative staff, contributing to projects that impact public safety and resource management across the state.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the collection, organization, and analysis of geological data.
  • Prepare and format reports, maps, and other documentation for geological projects.
  • Support the administration of government benefits programs, including processing inquiries and maintaining records.
  • Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders regarding project status and benefits information.
  • Conduct research on geological topics and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain geological databases and ensure data accuracy and integrity.
  • Provide general administrative support to the geological survey team.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines related to geological operations and benefits administration.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Science, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational and data management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of basic geological principles.
  • Familiarity with government administrative processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Previous experience in a geological or environmental consulting firm, or government agency.
  • Understanding of California state regulations related to geology or environmental protection.
  • Experience with benefits administration or HR support.
