Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Radio Sound Engineer specializing in live broadcasting to join our technical team in Fremont, Seattle. This role is crucial for ensuring the seamless, high-quality audio transmission of our live radio programming. The successful candidate will be responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of all audio equipment, as well as providing technical support for on-air talent and producers. This position includes a shift differential to compensate for varied work hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the 24/7 nature of live radio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain audio consoles, mixers, microphones, and other broadcast equipment for live radio programs.
  • Monitor and adjust audio levels, quality, and clarity to ensure optimal sound for on-air broadcasts and recordings.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on all studio equipment, identifying and resolving technical issues promptly.
  • Provide immediate technical support during live broadcasts, troubleshooting equipment malfunctions under pressure.
  • Set up and break down audio equipment for remote broadcasts, special events, and pre-recorded segments.
  • Collaborate closely with producers, on-air talent, and production staff to achieve desired audio aesthetics.
  • Ensure all broadcasts comply with FCC regulations and company technical standards.
  • Assist in the installation and configuration of new audio systems and upgrades.
  • Document equipment issues, maintenance logs, and technical procedures.

Required Skills

  • Proficient in operating digital and analog audio consoles and mixing boards.
  • Strong understanding of audio signal flow, acoustics, and live sound engineering principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair broadcast audio equipment.
  • Experience with various digital audio workstations (DAWs) and broadcast automation software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with diverse teams.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced live broadcast environment.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering, Broadcast Technology, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience as a sound engineer in a live broadcasting or production setting.
  • SBE (Society of Broadcast Engineers) certification or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with RF transmission systems and remote broadcast technologies.
  • Experience with enterprise-level broadcast equipment from manufacturers like Wheatstone, Axia, or Lawo.
