DuPont is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Surface Chemist with a strong focus on nanotechnology to join our cutting-edge research and development team in a modern lab environment. This full-time, on-site position in Scott’s Addition, Richmond, Virginia, offers a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking advancements in materials science. The successful candidate will be instrumental in designing, synthesizing, and characterizing novel materials with tailored surface properties for diverse applications, including electronics, coatings, and biomedical devices. Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute experiments for the synthesis and modification of material surfaces at the nanoscale.
- Characterize surface properties using advanced analytical techniques such as XPS, AFM, SEM, TEM, contact angle goniometry, and zeta potential measurements.
- Develop and optimize surface functionalization strategies for various substrates to achieve desired performance characteristics.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including materials scientists, engineers, and product development specialists.
- Maintain detailed records of experimental procedures, results, and data analysis in electronic lab notebooks.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and contribute to scientific publications and patent applications.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and best practices in a modern laboratory setting.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in surface chemistry, nanotechnology, and relevant analytical methodologies.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience (post-Ph.D.) in surface chemistry, nanotechnology, or a related R&D environment.
- Proven expertise in surface characterization techniques (e.g., XPS, AFM, SEM, TEM, contact angle, zeta potential).
- Strong understanding of colloidal science, interfacial phenomena, and polymer surface modification.
- Demonstrated ability to design, execute, and analyze complex experiments independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and collaboration.
- Proficiency in data analysis software and statistical methods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with thin film deposition techniques (e.g., ALD, CVD, PVD).
- Familiarity with computational chemistry or molecular modeling tools for surface interactions.
- Prior experience in an industrial R&D setting.
- Track record of publications and/or patent applications in relevant fields.
- Experience with cleanroom protocols and surface fabrication.
