Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and physically capable individual to join our operations team as a Linen Chute Clearer in our Pittsburgh hotel. This essential role ensures the efficient and continuous flow of soiled linen from guest rooms and other hotel areas to our laundry facilities, requiring consistent heavy lifting and adherence to safety standards. The successful candidate will be a vital part of maintaining a clean, orderly, and smooth-running hotel environment, primarily working in the hotel basement area.
Key Responsibilities
- Regularly monitor and clear linen chutes to prevent blockages and ensure unimpeded flow of soiled linen.
- Safely lift, carry, and transport heavy bags of soiled linen (often exceeding 50 lbs) from chutes to designated collection areas.
- Operate and maneuver laundry carts and other equipment used for linen handling.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment within the linen room and basement areas.
- Strictly adhere to all hotel safety protocols, including proper lifting techniques and personal protective equipment usage.
- Promptly report any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or system issues to management.
- Collaborate effectively with housekeeping, laundry, and other operational departments to ensure seamless service.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors to support overall hotel operations and cleanliness standards.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated ability to perform heavy lifting repeatedly (50+ lbs) and handle physical demands of the role.
- High level of physical stamina, endurance, and agility.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Basic understanding of workplace safety procedures and a commitment to following them.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable working in a basement environment, which may include varying temperatures and noise levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a hotel, laundry, warehouse, or other physically demanding industrial setting.
- Familiarity with large-scale linen handling or waste management systems.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
