Job Description

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Hospital Porters to join our team across West Hertfordshire, with an immediate need in Watford. As a Hospital Porter, you will be a vital part of our hospital’s operations, ensuring the smooth and efficient transport of patients, equipment, samples, and supplies throughout the facility. This role requires physical stamina, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to patient safety and comfort. You will interact with patients, visitors, and staff from various departments, playing a crucial role in the day-to-day running of our busy hospital environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Transporting patients safely and comfortably between wards, departments, and reception areas, using wheelchairs, beds, or trolleys.
  • Moving medical equipment, supplies, specimens, and pharmacy items to their designated locations.
  • Assisting with the transfer of deceased patients to the mortuary, showing respect and dignity.
  • Responding promptly to calls and requests for portering services from various departments.
  • Ensuring all equipment used for transport is clean, well-maintained, and ready for use.
  • Adhering to health and safety regulations, infection control procedures, and manual handling guidelines.
  • Providing assistance and directions to patients and visitors as needed.
  • Maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor at all times.

Required Skills

  • Good physical fitness and stamina to handle repetitive lifting, pushing, and walking throughout shifts.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • A strong sense of responsibility and reliability.
  • Empathy and a compassionate approach towards patients, especially those who may be distressed or vulnerable.
  • Basic understanding of health and safety procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or customer service environment.
  • Knowledge of hospital layout and procedures.
  • Basic IT skills for using hospital communication systems.
