Job Description

Are you passionate about the intersection of technology, government, and public policy? Google’s Public Sector team is looking for a driven and curious GovTech Public Policy Intern to join our team in Oakland, CA. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to projects that influence digital government strategies, support policy research, and engage with stakeholders on critical issues related to technology adoption in the public sector. You will gain hands-on experience in a dynamic environment, working alongside experts to analyze policy landscapes, develop recommendations, and advocate for innovative solutions that serve the public good.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis on public policy issues relevant to GovTech and digital government initiatives, including data privacy, AI ethics, cloud adoption, and digital inclusion.
  • Assist in drafting policy briefs, white papers, presentations, and other communication materials for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments impacting the technology sector and public services at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • Support stakeholder engagement efforts, including preparing for meetings with government officials, industry partners, and advocacy groups.
  • Contribute to project management and coordination for various policy initiatives and events.
  • Analyze the impact of emerging technologies on public service delivery and governance.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Public Policy, Political Science, Economics, Law, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in technology policy, digital government, and public service.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in using research tools and standard office software (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft Office).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous internship or work experience in government, a think tank, a non-profit organization, or a technology company focusing on public policy.
  • Familiarity with U.S. government structures and legislative processes.
  • Understanding of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, and cloud computing.
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization tools.
