Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Library Receptionist to join our team. This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in a quiet, focused work environment and possess a strong commitment to providing excellent patron service. As a Library Receptionist, you will be the first point of contact for visitors, assisting with inquiries, managing library card registrations, and supporting general administrative tasks, all while maintaining the serene atmosphere essential to our library operations. Your ability to concentrate and meticulously handle tasks will be paramount in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and assist library patrons with a polite and welcoming demeanor.
- Answer incoming calls and direct them to the appropriate department or staff member.
- Process new library card registrations and renewals accurately.
- Provide basic information about library services, programs, and resources.
- Manage incoming and outgoing mail and deliveries.
- Maintain the reception area, ensuring it remains tidy and presentable.
- Assist with scheduling meeting rooms and other library facilities.
- Perform light administrative duties, including data entry and filing, with precision.
- Handle routine inquiries and resolve minor issues, escalating complex problems to senior staff.
- Support a calm and focused environment, minimizing disruptions at the front desk.
Required Skills
- Proven ability to work in a quiet, focused, and detail-oriented manner.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask effectively.
- Customer service experience, preferably in a public-facing role.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a library or public service setting.
- Familiarity with library management systems (e.g., Alma, Koha).
- Associate’s degree or some college coursework.
- Bilingual skills (especially Spanish) are a plus.
